Correct Spelling Tip to Remember
participant(s) Think of “participate.” There is no ‘a’ after the ‘i’.
activities The singular ends in ‘y’ (activity). Drop the ‘y’ and add ‘-ies’.
societies The singular is society. Keep the ‘e’ when making it plural: societ-ies.
popularity Sound it out slowly: pop-u-lar-i-ty.
shining Shinning (two n’s) means climbing a pole. Shining (one n) means glowing.
suffered Only one ‘r’. The emphasis is on the first syllable (SUF-fer), so the consonant doesn’t double.
conversely Don’t forget the ‘e’ in the middle: converse + ly.
perceived Remember the rule: “i before e, except after c.”
benefits Think of the root word “bene” (meaning good) + “fits”.
attempt Missing the ‘e’.
higher Don’t forget the silent ‘h’ in the “gh” pair.
discoveries The prefix is “dis-”, not “des-”.

believe There is no ‘a’ in “believe.”
additionally The root word is “additional,” which has two ‘d’s. After that add’-ly’.
temperature(s) ‘e’ before ‘r’. Try saying it in the Egyptian accent. It can be pluarlized
disc(s) Prefer disc over disk
protein ‘e’ before ‘i’
