Liz IELTS Writing Task 1

These are the notes from this playlist: IELTS Writing Task 1 by IELTS Liz

The Introduction

You should start your answer with an introduction paragraph. This paragraph has the same structure for all chart types.

In the introduction paragraph, you should skip all the data inside the graph. You should use the data in the rubric in the beginning, the chart title, the x and y axes, and the legend. But don’t use the data itself now.

The introspective paragraph should sort of paraphrase all of this information.

When you paraphrase, try to be precise.

For diagrams, the introduction paragraph should be a paraphrase of the diagram title and the information in the legend. The text in the diagram and the pictures in it are the data that should be ignored in the introduction paragraph.

Conclusion / Overview

Do I need a conclusion for task 1?

No. Use a conclusion in task 2 and use an overview for task 1.

Task 1 is a short report. Don’t repeat information.

What is an overview?

An introductory paragraph that contains all the key information.

Is the overview important?

Yes. It is crucial. You MUST have it in your writing.

Can I write both an overview and a coclusion?

No. Only overview. The overview contains all the key information. Don’t repeat its information.

Where can I put the overview?

After the introduction.
